5 Hollywood Film Anime Adaptations!

This morning, the world anime fan was shocked with the news of the adaptation of  My Hero Academia to  become an anime.

In 2015 there was also news that  Naruto  would get a Hollywood film too, even though that had not been developed for three years. download anime

But every news is not welcomed with joy as if  Marvel or DC superheroes  gained film adaptation. Because Hollywood's track record is bad.

In the list of Hollywood films this anime adaptation, the authors focus on discussing films only (so there is no  Deathnote  Netflix, the problem is serial) and the title has indeed been an anime.

What's the result? This is the list!

1. Fist of the North Star (1995)

If you are not familiar with the  Fist of the North Star title ,  maybe you know the Japanese title better:  Hokuto no Ken .

Yep, the Kenshiro story in the post-apocalypse  world  has been adapted into a Hollywood film before this, in 1995.

After investigating, this one film was released directly to the video in America.

Not surprising. Most of the movie actors are arguably class B actors (including Gary Daniels the actor Kenshiro). The most famous name that the writer can find is only Chris Penn (voice of Pulaski in  GTA San Andreas ) and Malcolm McDowell (actor Alex on  A Clockwork Orange ).

The production fund also looks very cheap, until the background of the film looks too modest.

Interestingly, this film was once aired in Indonesia, on the Lativi television station.

2. Crying Freeman (1995)

Freeman Crying  is a manga that was adapted into an anime in OVA format.

The original manga tells Yo Hinomura, who was brainwashed into a killer by the Triad organization.

This type of Freeman Crying  plot  may include those that are quite easy to adapt to  live action . But this film was badly responded by a number of parties.

Beyond Hollywood once commented that acting in this film was substandard, and the relationship between Yo and Emu which was the duo of the central couple in the story felt stupid.

3. Speed Racer (2008)

anime that is then Americanized to  Speed Racer. Therefore,  Speed Racer movie  is still included in this list.

Putting aside visuals that feel too glare, the author actually thinks that  Speed Racer is  still fun to enjoy and is a pretty good adaptation. Although unfortunately the elements taken in this film are more than the American version than from the  Supreme Go .

Unfortunately, this film failed to attract the attention of the audience when it aired in theaters. Speed Racer  is one of the most losers in Hollywood history.

4. Dragonball Evolution (2009)

There are three anime titles that are still popular throughout the world: Naruto, One Piece , and  Dragon Ball .

Director James Wong has the opportunity to adapt Dragon Ball  to the big screen. Then what happen?

What happened was this amazingly ugly film.

Toriyama's fantastic world is gone, the plot is awesome, and the character is written by someone who doesn't understand  Dragon Ball at all.

It's really fantastic.

This film even made an impression, until every writer heard about a Hollywood film project, an anime adaptation, the first thing that came to mind was the quality would be like  Dragonball Evolution .

Ridiculous, there is still a good impact from  Evolution . Toriyama once admitted that he was ready to leave  Dragon Ball,  but he was so angry with  Evolution  that he became involved in the Battle of the Gods movie  production  . (You can read this disclosure at  Comicbook.com ).

Toriyama was then still involved in commenting on  Dragon Ball Super,  unlike the  Dragon Ball GT  he left behind.

So yep,  Dragonball Evolution  encouraged Toriyama to get back into  Dragon Ball.

5. Ghost in the Shell (2017)

Honestly, Ghost in the Shell's  visuals are  arguably extraordinary.

But the plot processing of the film and the tempo of the story feels slow and boring.

It was not a good thing when the film had already aroused controversy because of Scarlett Johansson's election as the main character.

In the end, this one film income was not satisfying.

Well, that's five Hollywood movie anime adaptations that I found.

Most feel ugly, while a decent one ( Speed Racer ) remains a big loss.

Apparently Hollywood adaptation of anime movies still has to struggle to be recognized. Whereas before this there was a Hollywood film of Japanese light novel  adaptation  that was quite successful and liked by critics, namely the  Edge of Tomorrow.
